Promotion Seminar of SJTU-OSU Dual-PhD Program

On July 13rd, promotion seminar of SJTU-OSU Dual-PhD program was successfully held in Room 308, Materials Building A. Dr. Aihua (Alan) Luo, professor of Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) of The Ohio State University(OSU) and fellow of American Society of Materials (ASM), was invited to introduce the department overview and research scopes of MSE@OSU. Faculty members from relevant fields and students from various grades participated in the seminar, which was chaired by Dr. Ke Chen.

At first, Dr. Aihua Luo gave a brief introduction to the department of MSE at OSU. OSU is prominent in the area of computational materials science and materials processing & manufacturing. The newly-established characterization center provided strong support to the research on the microstructure of materials.

Dr. Aihua Luo also introduced SJTU-OSU Dual-PhD program. The program is operated in the “2+2” mode, focusing on structural materials, materials processing&manufacturing and computational materials. PHD candidates will be designated to study in the other’s schoolto reinforce the communication between two sides and to build the “learn from each other” atmosphere.

Teachers and students of MSE made deep communication and discussion with Dr. Aihua Luo in terms of project application criteria, research area selection, credit transfer and degree application.

In December 2013, SMSE of SJTU signed “2+2” PhD program agreement with MSE of OSU. Now two sides are making further discussion on the project details and operation procedure.
