Editor of 3 collective volumes on Mg Science and Technology and author of more than 200 publications including papers in journals, papers introduced at major Mg Conferences such as: IMA, TMS, SAE and DGM and 12 patents.

The concept of using Mg alloys as a structural material for biodegradable implants is based on the inherent properties of Mg in terms of its biocompatibility, mechanical properties, corrosion performance and cost effectiveness compared to biodegradable polymers. The aim of the presentation will be to introduce possible use of biodegradable Mg alloys in various applications such as bone fixation, stents and drug delivery devices. The presentation will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of Mg as a biodegradable material and introduce updated efforts to overcome its main problem namely hydrogen evolution and the risk of consequent gas embolism.
