Graphene sheets are increasingly used for polymer composites. In this study, Jun Ma will report the development of high-structural integrity yet solution-processable graphene sheets for multi-functional composites. The 1st type of graphene sheets were made by thermal expansion of a commercial graphite intercalation compound followed by ultrasonication, and the 2nd type was produced by the simultaneous oxidation and ultrasonication of graphite. Both types of graphene sheets have high structural integrity and can be surface-modified to create a desired interface strength with polymers.
