Biographical Information

Dr. Shang is an associate professor at School of Materials Science and Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai, China). She graduated with a B.E. in applied electrochemistry from the Department of Applied Chemistry at Tianjin University (Tianjin, China) in 1994.  From 1994 to 1997, she studied in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at University of Science and Technology of China (Hefei, Anhui, China) and obtained a M.S. in Inorganic Materials in 1997. She then pursued her graduate study in the Chemistry Department at Brandeis University (Waltham, Massachusetts, US) from 1998-2003 and obtained PhD degree in Inorganic Chemistry in 2003. After graduation, Dr. Shang joined Rensselaer Nanotechnology Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, New York, US) and worked as a postdoctoral research fellow/visiting scholar from 2004-2008. Her postdoctoral research was in the emerging field of bio-nano interface. In 2008, Dr. Shang joined General Electric (GE) Global Research Center (Niskayuna, New York, US) as a lead research scientist. She focused her research on developing new nano/micro materials for sensing, biomaterial interface, anti-icing, membrane separation, and other industrial applications at GE before she joined SJTU in 2012.
