Biography
Professor Parkin is Dean of Mathematical and Physical sciences at UCL, and selected as the member of Academia Europaea in 2018. He holds the Sir William Ramsay chair of Chemistry. He has grdauates over 100 Ph.d students and his PDRA and students have over 30 academic positions in 12 countries. His group have published over 1000 publications including in Nature Energy, Science, Joule, JACS, Nature materials, Nature Comms, Advanced materials and nanoenergy. He has an H-index of 110 and 10 prizes and medals from learned societies. He is in the clarivate worlds top 5,000 most cited scientists list for 2023.
This talk highlights some of the work from our group over the last decade. It includes coverage of photocatalytic coatings and how light can inactivate bacteria and viruses. It shows the importance of microstructure and surface chemistry on the functional properties of energy storage materials. It shows how heterojunctions and modification of surfaces with nanoparticles can lead to enhanced catalytic properties.
