Prof. Di Zhang, Member of CAS
Prof. Di Zhang serves as a chair professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and director of the State Key Laboratory of Metal Matrix Composites. He was elected as a member of CAS in 2023.He was graduated from the School of Mechanical Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1982, obtained Master and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science from Osaka University in Japan in 1985 and 1988 respectively, and has been joined in Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 1988. In 2001, he was selected as a distinguished professor in the "Yangtze River Scholars Award" of the Ministry of Education. He has long been engaged in basic research on the application of metal matrix composites, and has made systematic and innovative research achievements in composite design and preparation, deformation processing, structure-effect relationship, and configuration control. He has published more than 600 SCI-indexed papers in academic journals, with more than 23,000 SCI citations, and has published 3 academic monographs in Chinese and English. He has undertaken major projects such as the National 863 Program, the 973 Program, the National Key R&D Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China，and has been granted more than 90 Chinese invention patents, and has formulated 3 national standards for metal matrix composite materials. Guiding basic research and supporting applied research, he has developed a series of lightweight and high-strength metal matrix composite materials for a number of major engineering projects in China, which have been successfully applied in high-tech fields such as aerospace. He has won 2 second prizes of the National Natural Science Award (both as the first author) and 4 first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels.
