主讲嘉宾介绍/ Biography
Prof. Jian Lyu is Chair Professor and Dean of the College of Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) and President of the Hong Kong Materials Research Society. He previously served as Vice-President (Research & Technology) and Dean of Graduate Studies at CityU from 2013 to 2020. Professor Lu began his studies at Peking University before earning his Dip. Ing. and Master (DEA) degrees in 1984 and Doctoral degree in 1986 from the University of Technology of Compiegne, France. His career commenced in 1986 as a Senior Research Engineer at CETIM (French Technical Centre for Mechanical Industry) until 1994. He then became Head of Mechanical Systems Engineering and Director of the Mechanical Systems and Concurrent Engineering Laboratory which was supported by the French Ministry of Education and CNRS at the University of Technology of Troyes, France. From 2005 to 2010, he joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as Chair Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, followed by his role as Dean of the College of Science and Engineering at CityU (2010-2013). Professor LU’s research focuses on advanced nanomaterials and their integration in mechanical, energy and biomedical systems. His distinguished contributions have been recognized through prestigious honors, including the French Knight of the National Order of Merit (2006), French Knight of the National Order of Légion d’Honneur (2017), election as academician of the National Academy of Technologies of France (2011), and the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Academy of Engineering (2018).
This presentation showcases breakthrough discoveries in AI empowered new materials development through advanced additive manufacturing that addresses critical challenges in mechanical, biomedical and energy systems. Novel nanostructured and Turing-patterned materials emerge from the convergence of additive manufacturing and AI-driven computational design. Applications include supranano structural materials, highly efficient catalysis for hydrogen economy through enhanced water splitting and fuel cells; ultrahigh wear-resistant transparent coatings; and revolutionary SERS platforms for early cardiovascular diseases detection. These innovations unlock unprecedented functionality addressing society's pressing technological and healthcare challenges.
