The 15th academic report of the "Master Lecture" academic platform of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University was successfully held online on July 16th, 2021 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. The topic of lecture was "Self-Assembly of Gold Nanoparticles toward Biodetection", and the speaker was Prof. Luis M. Liz-Marzan, Member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences and Member of the European Academy of Sciences. He has published more than 500 papers, including several papers in the top journal like Science. He is currently the deputy editor of ACS Nano, senior editor of Langmuir, member of the editorial board of Science and so on. The online lecture was hosted by Professor Dou Hongjing from the Institute of Composite Materials, and more than 100 people attended the lecture online via zoom.

At the beginning of the presentation, Prof. Luis M. Liz-Marzan introduced the self-assembly template of gold nanoparticles. Then he introduced the application of composite gold nanoparticles as biological probes owning to their high selectivity, high sensitivity and so forth. He also introduced the Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), and the application of SERS in sensing metabolic alterations in tumor extracellular environment and the imaging of hemin cytotoxicity effect. 

In the following interactive session, teachers and students eagerly asked questions, and Prof. Liz-Marzan opened the floor to questions from the audience. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Dou Hongjing hopes to invite Prof. Liz-Marzan to physically visit SJTU in the near future.
