On November 29, 2022，the 24th Academic Exchange Seminar between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University - Academic Exchange Seminar on Materials Welding was successfully held. This was the second time for the two universities to conduct academic exchange activities in the field of materials science online since 2020.
Exchange Academic Seminar on Materials Welding
At the opening ceremony of the 24th Academic Exchange Seminar between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University, Professor Fenggui Lu from the Institute of Welding and Laser Fabrication of Shanghai Jiao Tong University spoke on behalf of the Materials Welding Sub-Forum. She said that the two universities have cooperated in the field of materials welding for more than 40 years and established the Joint Science Research Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University-Osaka University. Then, she made a brief summary of the human resources training and scientific research cooperation of the joint research center in recent years, and looked forward to the bright future of further cooperation between two universities in the field of materials welding. Associate Professor Ke Chen was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the academic exchange seminar between two universities.

As one of the eight sub-forums of the academic exchange seminar between two universities, the academic exchange seminar on materials welding was held in the conference room of Zuyao Xu Building 308. First of all, Professor Yuichi Setsuhara, Joining and Welding Research Institute Osaka University gave an opening address, saying that two universities have been conducting academic exchanges and scientific cooperation in the field of materials welding for more than forty years, and have made remarkable achievements in cooperation. She hoped that this academic exchange seminar can further promote closer academic exchanges and scientific cooperation between two universities in the field of materials welding.
Professor Yuichi Setsuhara gave an opening address
The academic exchange seminar on materials welding was hosted by Professor Ninshu Ma, Joining and Welding Research Institute Osaka University, and Associate Professor Chen Shen, Institute of Welding and Laser Manufacturing, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, respectively. 8 scholars from the two universities made academic presentations on welding methods, welding process simulation, arc additive manufacturing, ultrafast laser processing, etc. Associate Researcher Juan Chen, Associate Professor Luchan Lin from the School of Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical Dr. Yunpeng Liu and Yidi Wu from the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering made academic presentations on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Relevant teachers and students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Mechanical and Power Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Joining and Welding Research Institute Osaka University attended the conference online and offline, and had in-depth academic discussions with the presenters, promoting further scientific research exchanges between two universities in the field of materials welding.
Finally, Prof. Lu Fenggui from Institute of Welding and Laser Manufacturing of Shanghai Jiao Tong University gave a closing address and congratulated the success of the materials welding academic exchange meeting. She said that although the two schools are still unable to carry out offline academic exchange activities, but through the Joint Science Research Center and online meeting form the two schools to deepen the relationship, and looked forward to the offline face-to-face academic exchange between the two universities next year.
