On March 25, 2023, the Graduation Ceremony and Degree Awarding Ceremony of 2023 graduate students of School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held in the Lecture Hall on the 8th floor of Tuxin Building. Dean of SMSE Sun Baode, Party Secretary Sun Lizhen, Executive Vice President of Alumni Association Shen Qinshuo, supervisor representatives Prof. Yuan Guangyin, Prof. Lu Fenggui and Prof. Guo Qiang, class teacher representatives Mr. Han Yuanfei and Mr. Du Dafan attended the ceremony and shared the joy of graduation with all 2023 graduate students of SMSE, as well as some 2020-2022 graduate alumni who returned to school. The ceremony was presided over by Shen Xiaodan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the SMSE, and started with the loud and clear sound of the national anthem.

Sun Baode delivered a speech for the graduates on behalf of the SMSE, reviewing the history of the SMSE and sending a message to all graduates: cultivate a sense of family and country, closely link personal development with national prosperity and national rejuvenation, and face the "neck" problems in key areas of the country; pay attention to the spirit of innovation, tolerate loneliness, be willing to sit on the cold bench, and learn to capture opportunities with the eyes of discovery. We should not lose our direction due to momentary gains and losses, and learn to capture opportunities with the eye of discovery; adhere to pragmatic style, develop good habits of lifelong learning, learn to apply dialectical materialism methodology, start from reality, and seize the main contradictions in future work to make breakthroughs. Finally, he sent his best wishes to the graduates, expecting them to give full play to their skills in all walks of life in the motherland and show the elegance of material people.

On behalf of all the supervisors, Guo Qiang affirmed the dedication and efforts of the students during their school years, expecting them to continue to carry forward the spirit of perseverance and self-improvement, to cross one energy barrier on the new platform and to continuously improve their resilience. He also hoped that they would cherish the love of their classmates and teachers and students in the SMSE of SJTU and motivate and help each other in the future.

Ma Jiangkun, the representative of outstanding master graduates, chose to join the aerospace industry of his country after graduation. He reviewed the three years of study and life in SJTU, expressed his deep gratitude to the college and teachers, and called on students to shoulder the responsibility and mission given by the times in their new positions.

Cui Danyu, representative of the 2022 doctoral graduates, shared her work experience and insight in the position of selected students, encouraging them to tear off the label of "bookish", change the stereotype of "high degree and low ability", do great work in the big stage, and show the ability and responsibility of SJTU students with practical actions.

Miao Puzun, a master's student of Class 2021, spoke on behalf of the current students and told the graduates about the interesting stories of campus life and laboratory, and promised to learn from the seniors, to meet the challenges of study and research with a striving attitude, to study hard, and to live up to their youth.

Sun Lizhen read out the list of outstanding graduates of the SMSE in 2023, and together with Sun Baode presented awards to the representatives of the winning students, encouraging them to make further efforts and make excellent achievements worthy of the times and youth.

Yuan Guangyin read out the list of excellent master's and doctoral dissertations in the SMSE and awarded honorary certificates to the representatives of the winning students, hoping that the students would have high ambitions, continue to overcome difficulties and climb the academic peak.

In the solemn and grand degree conferring ceremony, the representatives of the supervisors were crowning the graduates and awarding them the degree certificates in turn.

In the gift-giving session, President Sun Baode and Secretary Sun Lizhen presented customized gifts to the graduate representatives on behalf of the college, representing the college's intention to always accompany and support everyone, and hoping that the students would remember the good time they spent in the SMSE.

Shen Qinshuo introduced the basic situation of Alumni Association of the SMSE to the graduates, expressed his earnest expectation for new alumni and welcomed them to actively participate in alumni activities. After that, Shen Qinshuo read out the appointment list of class councilors of each graduation class and issued the appointment letters for them, hoping that the class councilors would play a good role as an important link between the school, college and alumni.

Finally, the graduation ceremony and degree conferment ceremony of 2023 graduate students of the SMSE was successfully completed in the sound of the melodious school song, and all the participating teachers and students took a group photo for a souvenir.
