The School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University held 19th Academic Master Forum in the afternoon of May 22, 2023 at Yiucheng Lecture Hall. The topic of this forum is “Future of Magnesium Alloys as Structural Materials and Potential New Areas of Applications - An European Perspective”，presented by Prof. Karl Ulrich Kainer from Hamburg University of Technology, Germany. The forum was hosted by Prof. Liming Peng from SMSE and many students and faculty members have participated.

During the talk, Prof. Karl Ulrich Kainer introduced his education and work experience and how he entered the field of magnesium alloys. Then he talked about his past and current research of magnesium alloys, including the design and applications of magnesium alloys as the structural materials. Moreover, he presented the exploration of future work such as the modification of magnesium alloy, enhancement of structural materials. The whole forum was insightful, professional, and interesting.

After the talk, Prof. Karl Ulrich Kainer interacted with the students and teachers. He encourages students to actively explore, face up to the research challenges, and make their own contributions to the progress of human science and technology.
