On the afternoon of June 21, 2023, the 2023 undergraduate graduation ceremony of the SMSE of SJTU was successfully held in the lecture hall on the 8th floor of the Tuxin Building. Zhu Xinyuan, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of the university, Sun Lizhen, Secretary of the Party Committee of the SMSE, Zhu Shenmin, Vice President of the School, Shen Qinshuo, Executive President of the Alumni Association, Yuan Guangyin and Wang Xiaodong, representatives of teachers, Zuo Xunwei and Liu Yue, representatives of graduation year class teachers, 2022 and 2023 undergraduate graduates of the SMSE and their families and friends gathered together to celebrate this important moment. The ceremony was presided over by Shen Xiaodan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the SMSE, and started with the loud and clear sound of the national anthem.

Zhu Xinyuan, on behalf of the university, congratulated all the graduates who had overcome the difficulties of the epidemic and completed their studies, and were about to start a new chapter in their lives, and expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and parents who had taught the students and accompanied their growth. He expressed his deepest gratitude to all the teachers and parents who have been teaching students and accompanying their growth. He sent a deep message to the students to "be the peers of the great era, the pursuers of excellence and the pioneers who dare to be the first", and hoped that they would "grasp the general trend, dare to take responsibility, be good at their work, integrate their ideals into the cause of the country and the nation, and strive to be the new man of the times who can bear the important responsibility of national rejuvenation" in their future life. At the same time, they should be able to "sink their nerves and endure loneliness, make top-notch and world-class exploration, continuously promote the progress and development of materials disciplines, and strive to grow up to be the future leaders in the field of materials in China."

Wang Xiaodong, On behalf of all the course instructors, sent graduation wishes to the students and wished them a prosperous future. He recalled the unforgettable experience of overcoming hardship and completing the online course together with the students, hoped that the students would remember the friendship between fellow students and teachers, and encouraged them to continue to carry forward the spirit of material person's practice and bold innovation in their future life, to grow their skills in practical work, to keep learning in practice, and to struggle to make a wonderful life of their own.

Yuan Hongjian, the representative of the graduates, reviewed the four years of schooling experience, and expressed his sincerest gratitude to all the teachers who guided and cared for the students and the parents who worked hard to educate and care for their children. He called on the students to shoulder the responsibility and mission of the new era in the new starting point and new journey, and to practice the youthful vow of "choosing Shanghai Jiao Tong University, choosing responsibility" with practical actions.

Liang Yitong, a junior student, as a representative of current students, congratulated the seniors on their successful graduation and told the interesting experience of participating in various campus cultural activities with them since they joined the university, which resonated deeply with the graduates present. Finally, he expressed his gratitude for the guidance, encouragement, and help given by the seniors and wished them a stable and prosperous future.

Sun Lizhen read out the list of outstanding graduates of the SMSE in 2023 and presented awards to the representatives of the winning students, encouraging them to continue to strive to achieve "real materials and glory of Shanghai Jiao Tong University".

Zhu Shenmin read out the list of outstanding bachelor's theses and awarded honorary certificates to the representatives of the award-winning students, hoping that they would have high ambitions and climb the academic mountain.

Afterward, the supervisors came together on stage to present the graduates with their graduation certificates.

On the occasion of graduation, graduates collectively participated in the last graduation meeting and made a memorial gift for the college, "Sound Harmony New Chapter", to express their gratitude for the training of the college and express their good wishes to the college. Secretary Sun Lizhen accepted the gift on behalf of the SMSE, expressed her heartfelt thanks to all of them, and gave back a custom-made mug to represent the "lifelong" friendship of the SMSE to all of them, hoping that the graduates would remember the good time they spent in the SMSE and visit home often.

Shen Qinshuo introduced the basic situation of the Alumni Association of the SMSE to the graduates, hosted the Alumni Association initiation ceremony for the graduates, and welcomed them officially as alumni of the SMSE. He awarded the appointment letters to the representatives of each class councilor and hoped that the class councilors would play a good role as an important link between the school, college, and alumni.

Finally, the 2023 undergraduate graduation ceremony of the SMSE was successfully concluded with the melodious school song, and all the participating teachers and students took a group photo for a souvenir.
