On the afternoon of September 11, the opening ceremony of 2023 graduate students of School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was held in the Lecture Hall 100 of Chen Ruiqiu Building. Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering Sun Baode, Secretary of the Party Committee Sun Lizhen, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Xu Yibin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Shen Xiaodan, Master's Program Directors Wang Qiang, Wang Lei, Pan Hui, Huang Guangfa, Doctoral Program Directors Le Jianweng, Kang Maodong, Lai Feili, Li Chuanwei, Liu Qingdong, and all the new students of the Class of 2023 participated in the Opening Ceremony. Secretary of the Party Committee of the SMSE, Ms. Sun Lizhen, gave a speech with the theme of "The tide is turning, the materials are forging the will". Sun Lizhen introduced the history of the SMSE and its achievements in the past five years. Standing at the new historical starting point of the SMSE, Sun Lizhen put forward three expectations and encouragement with the new students: First, we should step on the stone to leave a mark, to be down-to-earth scholars; second, we should be unconventional, to do the sky is the limit of creativity; third, we should be ambitious, to do the oar of the family and the country. Mr. Le Jianwen, the class teacher of the new students, made a speech. Mr. Zhu Changlong, the representative of current students, spoke on behalf of current students.
