Shanghai Key Laboratory of Hydrogen Science was officially approved and established by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality in December 2021. It is the first interdisciplinary research platform committed to in-depth integration of hydrogen science in China, and a forward-looking strategic layout research platform of Shanghai and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Hydrogen Science integrates scientific research and cultivating innovative talents, focusing on addressing the key common scientific issues of hydrogen storage, hydrogen conversion, and hydrogen regulation, mainly based  on the prospective scientific research, taking account of applied fundamental research, to make a major breakthrough in the leading and original scientific achievements, to realize international leading in overall hydrogen science research, and to eventually build a high-end hydrogen research reservoir, which helps establish a national strategic research think tank for hydrogen science and provide talent and technical support for the development of hydrogen economy.
